This blog is an ongoing reflection on the relationship between socioeconomic class and pop culture and entertainment – including everything from television to music to literature to even the popular blogosphere. The Pop Perspective is a deliberate effort to look critically at popular culture that might be pleasurable to consume, to find positive aspects of pop culture that might at first be unsettling or unappealing, and even to interrogate the class perspectives and socioeconomic influences which might lead us to find pleasure in particular places but not in others.
I am a regular blogger at Pushback, where I write about many of these same issues, but with a broader view of social justice, which extends far past representation and visibility. But I like to watch TV, listen to music, and read witty and even not so witty perspectives, and I think these are things prominent enough in society to warrant some focused reflection.
